USB Gloves

What can I do to make my Computer recognize a 802.11 Wireless LAN USB Adapter?

Okay, my main computer already has working internet, through Linksys. Another one of my computers is running by a USB thing by Encore Electronics. Now I have two USB adapters that are really alike. So I just took the installation CD from one and downloaded it to the computer, but when I plug in the USB adapter it won't recognize it. What do I do? Thanks I know its really Complicated.

  1. Make sure they aren't different versions. Sometimes products look exactly the same but the internal electronics are changed around. So, find out what version and go to the manufacturers website and download the correct driver.
  2. Having hardware that seems similar is not enough. Every different model is different. You'll want to go to the adapter manufacturer's Website, and locate the drivers (or software) for the exact model that you have. You will also want to very carefully, exactly follow their instructions. Quite likely they will emphasize that you _must_ install their software (drivers) before connecting the device. Since you have already connected the adapter, Windows (I'm only guessing you have Windows) might have set up the adapter in a way that it cannot work. Look in your Device Manager (Hardware) for Network Adapters. See if you can identify your wireless adapter. It might have a very generic name like "Network Connection," or "Network Adapter." Uninstall (Remove) it from the list. Physically unplug the thing from your computer. Shut down the computer, DO NOT connect the adapter, start up again. Follow the manufacturer's instructions, connecting the adapter ONLY when they say to do it. Did it work? Good luck!
