Do gadgets charged through USB chargers consume more electricity?

We have phones and mp3 players whose batteries are recharged through a computer's USB port. We also have side lights for laptops that are powered on when connected to the USB. Do these gadgets make the computer use more energy and electricity, or is it more efficient because you don't need another (external) power source?

1. The minute amount of current drawn by these items is insignificant compared to the power used by the CPU.
2. no...its not so...they consume approximately equal electricity as compared to normal ones...!!! manish
