  1. I have an alpine HU that has a similar power cord that plugs into the ipod and the first cord I got was dysfunctional as well. It would work one day and fail the next. I came to find out that there were two different types of cords I could choose from so I got the other type and everything is good. You could try another cord that is the same and see what happens or try to find one that is compatible but different from the one you have now. You can take your ride back to the installers and they can probably switch out the cords for you for free with the exception of the new power cord. I hope this helps and good luck
  2. that is not posible you are making a mistake somewhere the ipod usb cable don't have enought wires to play the ipod, controls the ipod, charge the ipod and sendaudio to the radio. it is only use to upload music from the computer and charge the ipod that usb in your new car stereo is only to be used for regular mp3 devices or you need to buy the ipod cable for your stereo good luck
